About the Department

Social work is an academic discipline and profession that concerns itself with individuals, families, groups, and communities in an effort to enhance social functioning and overall well-being. Throughout the years the social work profession played vital roles in the facilitation of social changes aimed at diminishing inequalities among various populations. Social work values are not then considered as a mechanistic adherence to rules and regulations, but will involve the exploration of personal value base and motivations to work with people who may be vulnerable or disadvantaged in some way. However, there are broad themes that are consistently felt to represent the value base of the profession. Every civilized society, in order to enable its members to lead a emancipated, respectful, decent and dignified life and for that to promote proper personality development through optimum realization of their potentials – talents and abilities, creates provision for varied types of services like health, housing, education, recreation, etc.

Yeldo Mar Baselios College is offering education in social work since 2004 with a vision, education for social change. The popularity of the course has been increased during last years. Excellent teaching learning process, good infrastructure and facilities, committed and competent faculty, opportunities of personal interaction with NGO leaders, alumni support, freedom and openness, opportunities for personal and professional development all these features contribute for a distinctive and unique identity of the department. Though the department has limited number of student intake, it has been able to make its presence both in the professional era and in the area of development of the community.
